Assessment (Exams)

Both Higher Level and Standard Level students must sit final exams. All students will sit Papers 1 and 2. The HL and SL exams share some similarities as well as important differences as detailed below.
Paper 1 is based on a pre-seen, fictitious case study, with HL needing to complete an additional Section C essay.
Paper 2 is based on unseen, shorter case studies. All students need to complete the Section C Conceptual essay

Standard Level
Paper 1
1 hour and 15 minutes
40 marks (30% of final grade)
Sections A and B
Based on pre-issued case study, with additional unseen case study material for section B
Section A - choose two of three structured questions (10 marks each). Based primarily on pre-issued case study material. AO1, AO2 and AO4 only.
Section B - one compulsory structured question (20 marks). Based primarily on unseen case study material. AO3 will be assessed here for 10 of the marks.
Paper 2
1 hour and 45 minutes
50 marks (45% of final grade)
Sections A, B and C
Sections A and B are based on unseen case studies. Section C is based on the real organisation(s) of the student's choosing
Section A - choose one of two structured questions with a quantitative focus (10 marks). AO1, AO2 and AO4 only.
Section B - choose one of three structured questions with a qualitative focus (20 marks). AO3 will be assessed here.
Section C - choose one of three extended response questions based primarily on two concepts that underpin the course - see CUEGIS concepts (20 marks). Criteria based.
Higher Level
Paper 1
2 hours and 15 minutes
60 marks (35% of final grade)
Sections A, B and C
Based on pre-issued case study, with additional unseen case study material for sections B and C. Section B is more likely to be directly connected to the pre-issued case study, whereas Section C is more likely into the future.
Section A - choose two of three structured questions (10 marks each). Based primarily on pre-issued case study material. AO1, AO2 and AO4 only.
Section B - one compulsory structured question (20 marks). Based primarily on unseen case study material. AO3 will be assessed here for 10 of the marks.
Section C - strategic essay, usually asking for discussion or recommendation of a strategic decision. 20 marks, criteria based.
Paper 2
2 hours and 15 minutes
70 marks (40% of final grade)
