Extended Essay (EE)

Students may choose to undertake the EE in the field of Business Management. This will require the student to write a 4,000 word academic essay about a real business or industry wide issue. Unlike the Higher Level IA, the EE should be based mostly on secondary research. Other differences between the EE and HL IA include:

- The IA requires recommendations, the EE does not require recommendations

- The IA must be forward looking, the EE may look into the past

- The IA requires significant primary research, the EE should be based on secondary research

- The IA is often a small-medium sized business due to the need for primary research, whereas EEs are usually larger businesses.
