Many argue that people are the most important resource to developing a successful business. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin, reportedly looks after his employees' needs first and his customers' needs second. The world of work is heavily influenced by technology, socio-cultural change and globalisation, and managers need to implement strategies that reflect this. Furthermore, managers need to anticipate their human resource requirements and then recruit, train and appraise staff to meet aims and objectives. At times, employers may also need to reduce their human resources through dismissal and redundancy measures.
